Bill Maher: Yes, Hillary Should Have Called Trump a ‘Creep’ at the Debate

On Real Time, the panel discussed Hillary Clinton‘s newly released book excerpt that recalled her time during the second debate with then-candidate Donald Trump.

Bill Maher read the excerpt:

“He was literally breathing down my neck. My skin crawled. It was one of those moments where you wish you could hit pause and ask everyone watching ‘well, what would you do? Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry-on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye, and say loudly and clearly ‘back up you creep, get away from me!'”

Maher insisted that “Back Up You Creep” would have been a better book title and that she should have gone with Option B.

“In a world now, in a country absent where people don’t have any knowledge of politics or policy or what’s going on, what they go by is authenticity,” Maher said. “That would have been an authentic moment and that to me is what cost her the election. She was never authentic, she never did what she felt!”

Democratic strategist and former Clinton advisor Paul Begala disagreed, saying she “won the debates” and those were “her best times during the campaign,” adding her “carefulness” is her authenticity.

“She’s careful, she’s reasoned, she’s cautious, she’s very careful about her words and that sounds really good to me right about now living under this president, okay?” Begala elaborated. “I would take that in a frickin heartbeat!”
