Brian Kilmeade Challenges Dana Loesch: ‘You’re Not Against Universal Background Checks, Right?’
During an appearance this morning on Fox & Friends, NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch waffled an answer to Brian Kilmeade‘s question about where she stands on background checks for gun owners.
Loesch began by taking shots at ongoing calls for gun control, as well as the FBI for their failure to act against the shooter who killed more than a dozen high school students in Florida last month. She was also given a chance to hit back at Governor Dannel Malloy (D-CT) after he accused the NRA of opposing background checks and acting like a “terrorist organization.”
“So are you a terrorist?” Steve Doocy asked sarcastically.
Loesch responded that she cannot take people seriously if they insult NRA members and law-abiding gun owners for wanting to be able to protect their families.
“I’m not going to be shamed for it by the Connecticut governor or anyone else that wants to smear me or anyone as terrorists because we disagree with him and we have a different way of protecting our family,” Loesch said.
Kilmeade followed up by asking “but you’re not against universal background checks though, right?
After an awkward pause, Loesch replied “like the one’s the failed in California?”
She then pivoted to talk about how background checks have failed in the past, and states need to be more thorough in reporting criminal convictions to the National Crime Information Center. She said the NRA’s interest is in making sure the current system works as accurately as it’s supposed to.
