Chris Matthews: How’s Trump Going to Be ‘Mr. Conciliatory’ After Being So Divisive?

The early excerpts of tonight’s State of the Union illustrate that President Trump will be striking a more unifying tone. Chris Matthews talked with his panel tonight about whether that maybe seems a little too disingenuous.

He showed some of Trump’s most notable and divisive moments over the past year and also pointed to when Trump talked about roughing up protesters during the campaign.

Matthews said, “His whole thing is about bullying, brutality, and getting the little guy… Now he says he’s Mr. Conciliatory.”

Joy Reid suggested the kind of unity Trump wants is for everyone “to line up behind him as if he is the absolute ruler in the United States.”

The panel that no matter what happens tonight, Trump will be up tweeting tomorrow morning…
