A CNN debate between a pair of Republican and Democratic guests got ugly Wednesday when the segment devolved into personal barbs and attacks.
Former New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino defended Donald Trump‘s 2006 comments in which he appeared to root for the impending housing crisis, claiming that Hillary Clinton and her husband were the ones who actually caused the sub-prime lending meltdown. But Paladino went even further, implying that Democratic guest Robert Zimmerman was a communist.
“Robert wants to say the people that were involved in recovering and helping America recover from that should be pointed at right now and say they didn’t do right,” he said. “That’s somewhat a good illustration of communism versus capitalism…”
“I want to sit there and defend the people who Donald Trump cheered on destruction over…” Zimmerman said. “He was rooting for the housing collapse, he said so publicly.”
Paladino’s response was cerebral and informed: “Listen to yourself, Robert, you’ve got to get a life, buddy.”
“You’ve got to get a life, man,” he continued. “You’re on TV constantly with this nonsense you keep spewing out. It’s not right, okay? You’re off in another world.”
“Do you know what Donald Trump said? Carl, do you know what Donald Trump said? Do you know his actual words?” Zimmerman responded.
“What did he say?” Paladino asked.
“If you don’t, you shouldn’t even be here,” Zimmerman shot back.
