CNN’s Toobin on Mueller Reportedly Requesting House Intel Transcript: ‘Unnerving Development’ for Roger Stone
Speaking to CNN’s John Berman on Wednesday, legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin stressed the new Washington Post report suggesting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller requested an official transcript of Roger Stone‘s Congressional testimony is not exactly good news for Stone.
“Just like in a tax case, you need the tax return, the official copy of the tax return, not any old Xerox copy,” Toobin said, explaining the need for the request. “Same thing with congressional testimony, it’s got to come from Congress in an official way. This is not a guarantee that Roger Stone is going to be indicted but if you’re Roger Stone, it’s certainly an unnerving development.”
Berman then noted that Stone responded to the WaPo story by saying “Mueller would need to prove intent and materiality and no reasonable attorney would conclude that’s happened here in terms of his testimony to Congress.”
Toobin, though, wasn’t buying it.
“You know, I don’t like to throw around legal jargon on television, but Roger Stone is a classic BS artist,” he said. “This is a guy who says different things at different times.”
He then added: “And in a perverse way, that may actually help him here.”
