‘Conspiracy Theory Night Here at the Abby Phillip Show!’ CNN’s Scott Jennings Mocks Co-Panelist Over Election Denialism, Wild 2024 Prediction
CNN’s Scott Jennings mocked Elie Mystal for suggesting that Al Gore won the 2000 presidential election and predicting that the Supreme Court would steal the 2024 presidential election on behalf of Donald Trump on Newsnight with Abby Phillip Monday.
Host Abby Phillip ends her show by allowing each panelist 30 seconds to address whatever topic they’d like. Mystal got the first at bat on Monday.
“My big story this weekend was The New York Times’ excellent reporting on John Roberts and how he’s been putting the thumb on the scale for Donald Trump all past this term. So my hot take is this: If Harris is lucky enough to win the Electoral College by only one state, John Roberts and his Supreme Court will find a way to flip that state back into Trump and give Trump the victory,” declared Mystal. “It will be a redo of 2000. So the people in Harris’s camp need to understand they need to win by more than one state. They need to win by two, three, four states to make their margin of victory so large that the Supreme Court can’t take it away from them.”
“Hmmm, there’s a lot going on in that,” replied Phillip with a chuckle before turning to Jennings.
“I mean, for the record, [George W.] Bush won Florida,” he began, causing all of his co-panelists to simultaneously interject.
“Please,” implored Phillip.
“Come on, guys. It’s conspiracy theory night here at the Abby Phillip show!” exclaimed Jennings with a laugh.
In a post on X, Jennings shared a clip of the exchange — which he titled “My 10pm nightcap on Conspiracy Theory Night” — and asked if someone could “remind” him “of the rules on election denialism.”
“Two panelists assured me on @cnn that the 2000 election was stolen,” he observed wryly.
