‘Disgusting’: Trump is Still Making Jokes About Paul Pelosi Nearly Being Bludgeoned to Death With Hammer

Former President Donald Trump is once again under fire for making jokes about the violent 2022 attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.

The sarcastic remark came on Friday during a speech to the Fraternal Order of Police. The law enforcement officers in attendance awkwardly laughed in response to his quip about the brutal incident in which David DePape, a Canadian conspiracy theorist, attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer after gaining access the couple’s residence in an apparent attempt to kidnap the Democratic leader.

Paul Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized by the brutal attack. He had surgery to repair a skull fracture and other injuries to his hand and arm in the struggle with DePape — whose attack was inspired by Trump’s false claims that Democrats stole the 2020 election from him.

Trump used the jab as part of a broader critique of Democratic politicians, accusing them of protecting their own homes while being soft on crime.

“[Democrats] force anarchy on the American people while they live in safety, in many cases behind walls, you know that? Nancy Pelosi has a big wall wrapped around her house,” Trump said mockingly. “Of course, it didn’t help too much with the problems she had, did it?”

The comment has sparked backlash, with many calling out Trump for making light of political violence.

On Monday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski slammed the remark as “absolutely sick.”

Online, others blasted the comments as “disgusting.”

DePape, whose anti-government writings referenced Trump’s rhetoric, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in May for the attack.

Trump’s speech also touched on other topics, including crime in New York City, where he lamented residents being unable to leave their homes without “getting mugged.”
