Fox & Friends Host Falsely Says Democrats Want to Kill Babies

Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt falsely claimed that Democrats have taken a pro-infanticide position during a segment focused on Georgia’s controversial “heartbeat” abortion law and the entertainment industry boycott that has followed suit.

As an interview with Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) wrapped up, Earhardt noted that abortion debate was “definitely in the forefront of our minds now,” adding “I think it backfired on those Democrats when they all said you can have an abortion even after the baby is born or kill the baby after the baby is born.” Perdue jumped on that note and claimed that the Democratic “regime” has gotten so radical that they think that “infanticide” is okay.

But that’s simply not true. Killing a baby after it’s been born is not legal anywhere, and nor is anyone calling for that to be legal.

The root of this political wedge issue? A controversial radio interview with Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (a medical doctor himself) describing the medical procedure for delivering a nonviable infant. His description was awkward, and was interpreted on the right as a description of infanticide, when in fact he was describing the tragic process for a newborn that could only survive on life-support. Nonviable.

Fox & Friends is the conservative, pro-Trump opiniotainment program, that consistently takes the pro-life position in the ongoing abortion debate. They have often featured Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) who has consistently promoted the same false idea that state-level and Democratic authored bills that legally allow for infanticide. President Donald Trump recently also made the same claim during a political rally which earned several fact-checks that proved his claim to be false.

The false promotion of the political wedge issue of “Democrats want infanticide” has not been yet deterred by numerous articles and report that show it to be false.

Given her frequent commentary on the issue of abortion rights, it is clear that Earhardt is very much pro-life, which makes her a perfect host for Fox & Friends, and well within her rights as a commentator. But seeing as she co-hosts a show that gets millions of viewers to tune in every morning, she has a responsibility to share facts and not the false statement that she did this morning.
