‘Guys, It’s Dead’: Swalwell Tells Republicans ‘Impeachment Is Over’ While Writing ‘Time of Death’
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) had a field day during Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee and declared the impeachment probe into President Joe Biden, “dead.”
The committee is continuing its long-running investigation into Hunter Biden’s overseas business ventures. Republicans claim they have shown his father illicitly benefitted from those dealings while serving as vice president, but have not furnished proof and do not appear to be close to calling an impeachment vote.
During the hearing, Swalwell interrogated witness and former Hunter Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski, who claims the Bidens engaged in corruption. The California lawmaker listed a series of facts about former President Donald Trump that were posed in the form of questions about Joe Biden:
SWALWELL: Mr. Bobulinski, in your interactions with the Biden family, did you ever see the Chinese government approve 22 patents [sic, trademarks] to any of Joe Biden’s children while Joe Biden was in office?
BOBULINSKI: I did not.
SWALWELL: Did you ever observe the Chinese government– I’m sorry. Did you ever observe Joe Biden ever own or operate any hotels while he was in public office and take millions of dollars from foreign governments?
BOBULINSKI: I did not.
SWALWELL: Did you ever observe Joe Biden employ any of his children or their spouses in the White House as vice president or president?
BOBULINSKI: I did not– I can’t speak to that.
SWALWELL: Did you ever observe the Bidens install a family member to be the co-chair of the DNC?
BOBULINSKI: I’m sorry, ask the question again.
SWALWELL: Did you ever observe the Bidens install a family member to be the co-chair of the Democratic National Committee?
BOBULINSKI: I did not.
SWALWELL: Did President Biden or anyone in his family take $2 billion from the Saudi government?
BOBULINSKI: Not that I’m aware of.
The congressman noted that a former FBI informant who claimed the Bidens engaged in bribery is under indictment for falsely making that claim to the FBI. He proceeded to rattle off several other problematic aspects of the committee’s investigation, which he deemed “dead” while addressing Chair James Comer (R-KY). As he spoke, Swalwell rose and wrote the “time of death” on a whiteboard behind him:
SWALWELL: At what point are you gonna fish or cut bait? So, I just have to tell you, it’s over. Impeachment is over…
I dare you to impeach, but you won’t because you don’t have the evidence. And because you don’t have the evidence, you don’t have the votes. Guys, it’s dead. And so, I’m here to pronounce the time of death: 5:16, impeachment is dead, 5:16, Biden impeachment is dead. Joe Biden has been acquitted.
