‘I Have No Respect for These People’: Brian Sicknick’s Partner Rips Trump and GOP, Says Senate Report on 1/6 Is Insufficient

The longtime partner of U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick joined Erin Burnett on Tuesday to discuss the Senate’s report on the January 6 Capitol riot. Sandra Garza said the report, which was released earlier in the day, was insufficient. She said that the report stated that the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security didn’t give the Senate some of the crucial information it had requested.

Burnett noted that Garza and Sicknick had been supporters of former President Donald Trump.

“To hear Mitch McConnell asking his colleagues, ‘Well, do me a personal favor and vote no on this,'” Garza said, “that’s appalling, that’s atrocious, It’s reprehensible.”

Garza then mentioned Officers Howard Liebengood and Jeffrey Smith, who responded to the Capitol riot and later died by suicide, as well as Officer Daniel Hodges, whom protesters crushed with a door.

“Why doesn’t he say that to Officer Liebengood’s family or Officer Jeffery Smith’s family, or the numerous officers who were injured that day. I believe one officer lost an eye and Officer Hodges who almost lost his life that day, almost being crushed to death. Or even myself, I was not working for two months because I was so devastated and broken up over Brian’s death.”

Garza then ripped into Trump. “I watched his speech in North Carolina,” she said. “For him to say he loves America? That he’s a patriot? It’s disgusting.

Garza said she wanted to meet with Trump because, she said, “I want answers.”

I’m gonna slam him with hard questions. I’m not intimidated by Donald Trump like some of his people on Capitol Hill are. So I have absolutely no respect for these people. They’re selling their souls for power, for reelection, and like [Brian Sicknick’s mom] Gladys [Sicknick] had said in an earlier interview, to line their pockets. It’s disgusting.
