Jake Tapper Presses AOC On Jamaal Bowman Pulling the Fire Alarm: His Explanation ‘Doesn’t Really Make Sense’

CNN’s Jake Tapper confronted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) with his skepticism for Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s (D-NY) explanation of why he pulled a fire alarm on Capitol Hill.

Tapper interviewed Ocasio-Cortez on Sunday’s State of the Union — questioning her on everything from the government barely avoiding a shutdown, to Rep. Matt Gaetz’s renewed threat to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy. The conversation turned to Bowman — who pulled the fire alarm at the Cannon House Office while Democrats were trying to delay the vote for the government funding bill.

Tapper noted that Bowman admitted to triggering the alarm, but he also claimed in his explanation that it was an accident as he was trying to get through a door.

“I’ll be honest, it doesn’t really make sense to me,” Tapper said.

Ocasio-Cortez defended her fellow New York representative by saying “I think if you actually do see some of the photos of the signs, I think there’s something to be said about, the government’s about to shut down, there’s a vote clock that’s going down, the exits that are normally open in that building were suddenly closed.”

“So he pulled the fire alarm?” Tapper questioned.

Ocasio-Cortez retorted that Bowman has apologized for the incident and is cooperating with the investigation into the incident. She then blasted the Republicans rushing to demand Bowman’s expulsion, commenting that they didn’t do that when George Santos got indicted on 13 criminal counts months ago.

He’s indicted on everything from wire fraud to actually lying of House investigators. And they have been buddying up and giggling with him on the House floor, and they are protecting someone who has lied to the American people, lied to the United States House of Representatives, lied to congressional investigators. But they’re filing a motion to expel a member who in a moment of panic was trying to escape a vestibule? Give me a break!
