Joe Scarborough Cannot Contain His Disgust at Rep Jayapal’s Equivocating on Hamas Raping Israeli Women
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were both gobsmacked by Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s “yes, but” answer to CNN’s Dana Bash over her apparent lack of condemnation of Hamas brutally raping Israeli citizens on October 7th.
Morning Joe aired a clip from CNN’s State of the Union interview, which originally aired Sunday, in which Bash confronted the Democratic member of Congress about why she hasn’t been more vocal in condemning rape as a war crime.
Jayapal: And frankly, morally, I think we cannot say that one war crime deserves another. That is not what international humanitarian law says.
Bash: With respect, I was just asking about the the women and you turned it back to Israel. I’m asking you about Hamas. In fact.Jayapal: I already answered your question. I said it’s horrific. And I think that rape is horrific, sexual assault is horrific. I think that it happens in war situations. Terrorist organizations like Hamas obviously are using these as tools. However, I think we have to be balanced about bringing in the outrages against Palestinians. 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, three quarters of whom are women.
Bash: Snd it’s horrible. But you don’t see Israeli soldiers raping.
Jayapal: Well, Dana, I think we’re not…
Coming out of the clip, Scarbrough seemed disgusted:
What’s remarkable is that you have many people, international organizations on the left, that just can’t condemn Hamas raping and abusing and raping kids to the point in jail. It did and then parading. Yeah, but there was never it wasn’t. We can condemn Hamas. It always has to be. There’s always moral equivocation. And this is what you’re talking about before, Elise. There’s always moral equivocation. You can never say that what Hamas did, the Jewish women was absolutely savage and beyond the pale. It always has to be. ‘Yeah, but Israel.’
