Kevin McCarthy Gives Full-Throated Defense of DNC Vice Chair David Hogg On Fox News: ‘He’s Right!’

Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Wednesday voiced his support for DNC Vice Chair David Hogg amid alleged efforts by his party to unseat him.

Hogg caused a stir within the party when he announced his intention to spend millions to fund challenges to incumbent Democrats. That was met with a great deal of criticism from inside the Democratic Party — and even a war of words with longtime strategist James Carville leading up to their fiery debate.

On Monday, The New York Times reported that the DNC’s credentials committee had officially voided the election that made Hogg a vice chair. The committee cited a procedural error, and it could result in Hogg having to run again.

Although the decision came as a result of one of the losing candidates complaining about the error, it hasn’t stopped many from trying to form a connection to Hogg’s recent comments on the party. On Wednesday’s episode of Fox News’s Outnumbered, McCarthy criticized Democrats for the way they’ve responded to Hogg’s plan.

“This is exactly what the Democrats do,” McCarthy said, “and why they continue to lose. They don’t believe in allowing Democrats to pick who should lead them. He’s right, and he’s young, he’s smart, and he’s going to be around, and this is only going to elevate him; and the whole thing he’s saying is if you’re old and not working to win a majority, you ought to leave!”

McCarthy then suggested several Democrats should be challenged for their leadership roles.

“There’s no reason Nancy Pelosi is still around,” he continued. “She’s taking what place? She’s not helping them win. They have two leaders that aren’t going to get them in the majority. [Chuck Schumer] can’t even go on a book tour. [Hakeem Jeffries] can’t make a decision.

“[Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] is the leader. AOC has raised more money in the last quarter than any member in Congress — three times as much as the Speaker. [Hogg’s] going to be next, and this is the future. If you want to win a majority, you have to fight for it. If you have people — Maxine Waters — that stays around all these years, it motivates nothing for them. Now, I don’t want to solve their problem. I want to keep being in charge. But he’s right. And they’re going to elevate him, and he should fight this; and he will become the chairman of the party or get elected.”
