Marjorie Taylor Greene Declares, ‘I Really Don’t Give a Rat’s Ass’ About What Colleagues Say

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) continued defying a majority of House Republicans on Wednesday night, hours after she announced she will force a vote on whether to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) from his position.

Greene has criticized Johnson’s stewardship of the House, which has approved a series of short-term funding bills to keep the government open and also several foreign aid packages.

“I think the American people need to see a recorded vote,” she announced at a press conference earlier in the day. “Is this what they support? I think every member of Congress needs to take that vote and let the chips fall where they may. And so next week, I am going to be calling this motion to vacate, absolutely calling it.”

Later that evening, she spoke with CNN’s Manu Raju.

“What you guys need to know is I really don’t give a rat’s ass what anybody up here says about what I’m doing,” she said while standing on the steps of the Capitol.

In a separate clip, CNN aired a reporter asking Johnson if he will step down before the vote.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene has called on you to resign,” the reporter asked. “Sir, quickly, will you resign?”

“Of course not,” the speaker replied. “It’s absurd. ”

Greene filed a motion to vacate the chair in March, but declined to force a vote of the House at the time. Now, she is availing herself of the rules of the lower chamber, which currently allow a single member to trigger such a vote.

Johnson became speaker in October after the House voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from the position. McCarthy was the first-ever speaker to be ousted.
