Martha Raddatz, Jon Karl Receive Walter Cronkite Award For 2012 Debate Moderation, Political Analysis

 

The Walter Cronkite Awards for Excellence in Television Political Journalism recognized both Martha Raddatz and Jonathan Karl of ABC News for their work during the 2012 election cycle. Raddatz was awarded for her job moderating the vice presidential debate, while Karl was commended for his “refreshing and original” analysis.

Per ABC News’ press release, the Norman Lear Center at the USC Annenberg School for Communication, which gives out the awards, and Journalism lauded Karl’s storytelling and, in interviews, ability in “getting candidates to relax, but never backing away from tough questions.” He’s “likable, yet unrelenting in getting the facts.”

Meanwhile judges praised Raddatz for being “an active moderator who struck the right balance between facilitating and shaping the debate” between Vice President Joe Biden and Mitt Romney‘s running mate, Paul Ryan.” She “posed excellent questions, asked for specifics and did her best to keep the candidates on point.”

The ceremony is scheduled for April 19 at The National Press Club in Washington D.C.
