Mediaite’s Colby Hall on Alabama Senate Race: New Side to GOP Civil War
Mediaite’s Managing Editor Colby Hall appeared on HLN’s S.E. Cupp Unfiltered Tuesday night, providing commentary in the upcoming battle royale in Alabama between Republican Senate candidates Luther Strange and Roy Moore.
As S.E. Cupp noted at the beginning of the segment, the race to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ former Alabama Senate seat is turning out to be a little more dramatic than expected.
Populist candidate Moore holds a commanding ten-point lead over establishment Mitch McConnell pick Luther Strange, who currently holds the Senate seat.
More importantly: President Donald Trump has sided with McConnell, backing Strange. Former WH chief strategist Steve Bannon and his website Breitbart, on the other hand, have thrown their aggressive force behind Moore.
“It’s a different iteration of the GOP Civil War,” Hall commented on Unfiltered. “It had been the Trump administration versus the Swamp, the GOP establishment.”
“Breitbart is still a very powerful website,” Hall continued. “And so it’s not just Bannon — Bannon is now sending Sebastian Gorka and Sarah Palin to campaign on behalf of Roy Moore. Which is, by the way, wildly entertaining.”
“And weird!” Cupp added.
“Here, President Trump is now aligned with Mitch McConnell, so this might be a good thing for Trump to get in line with the GOP establishment,” Hall said. “They need to have a more copacetic relationship.”
