NBC’s Kristen Welker Confronts Peter Navarro About Elon Musk Attacking Him: He Called You ‘Dumber Than a Sack of Bricks’

NBC’s Kristen Welker confronted Trump administration trade adviser Peter Navarro over recent online attacks against him from Elon Musk on Sunday, including a post where he called Navarro “dumber than a sack of bricks.”

Navarro brushed off the insults and maintained his relationship with the Tesla CEO was strong on Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press.

He joined Welker to discuss the Trump administration’s trade and tariff policies but Welker at one point steered the discussion toward Navarro’s public feud with Musk.

Last week, during an appearance on CNBC, Navarro dismissed Musk’s role as a car manufacturer, claiming Tesla is merely a “car assembler” reliant on foreign parts.

Musk fired back on X, posting two insults in response to a clip of Navarro’s remarks.

“Navarro is truly a moron. What he says here is demonstrably false,” Musk wrote.

In a follow-up comment, he added, “Tesla has the most American-made cars. Navarro is dumber than a sack of bricks.”

Navarro downplayed the spat during his interview with Walker:

WELKER: I want to let you respond to this back-and-forth with Elon Musk. Elon Musk was publicly advocating for a zero-tariff trade deals. That goes against what you believe in, what President Trump believes in, presumably. But did Elon Musk win here, given these pauses and exclusions?

NAVARRO: So, so first of all, Elon and I are great. It’s not an issue.

WELKER: Even though he called you a “moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks?”

NAVARRO: I’ve been called worse. Everything’s fine with Elon. And look, Elon is doing a very good job with his team with waste, fraud and abuse. That’s a tremendous contribution to America, and no man doing that kind of thing should be subject to having his cars firebombed by crazies. I mean, that is like –

KRISTEN WELKER: Broad agreement there.
