Paul Begala Sounds Alarm on Biden Presser: ‘Terrible for Democrats and Anybody With a Functioning Brain Knows It’

Longtime Democratic strategist Paul Begala revealed on CNN Friday morning that he slept like a baby last night following President Joe Biden’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day: he woke up crying every two hours and wet the bed.

At issue is the report from Special Counsel Robert Hur, which concluded Biden should not be charged for his mishandling of classified material in no small part because of mental issues, describing the commander-in-chief as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” And, of course, a gaffetastic evening press conference ostensibly designed to show off Biden’s mental acuity.

John Berman set his guest up by asking, “How much democratic bedwetting do you think there will be?” which he immediately (and correctly) defended as a political term of art, and it’s used in democratic politics.

“Look, I’m a Biden supporter. And I slept like a baby last night. I woke up every two hours crying and wet the bed,” Begala japed.

“This is terrible for Democrats, and anybody with a functioning brain knows that,” the long-time Democratic strategist and former Clinton White House aide flatly said.

“But here’s what you do. Instead of calling a press and saying, ‘I really am sharp,’ you attack the other guy,” he continued.  “You know, Joe Biden gave the strategy in 2012. I remember he was vice president, and he said, ‘Don’t compare us to the Almighty, compare us to the alternative.’ So everything with Biden has to be not ‘I’m great,’ but ‘the other guy’s really damaging, dangerous, a threat.'”

“This is going to be a really rough, ugly, unpleasant campaign,” Begala explained. ” Look, years ago, David Duke, the former Klansman, was running for governor against Edwin Edwards, who’d been charged, indicted, convicted of any number of criminals. Then Edwin won the campaign with a bumper sticker that said, ‘Vote for the Crook: It’s Important!”

“And they got to tell Democrats, look, both of the old guys support the old guy,” Begala concluded. “It’s important.”
