Raskin Gleefully Mocks Comer Live on Fox News While Standing Right Next to Him

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) had a grand time mocking Rep. James Comer (R-KY) when the two appeared for a joint segment on Fox News Tuesday evening, congratulating his fellow House Oversight Committee member for the “magnificent job exonerating Joe Biden” of the accusations raised in various GOP-led impeachment inquiries.

Raskin and Comer were on Special Report with Bret Baier for a segment called “Common Ground,” in what they said was their first-ever television appearance together.

One of the initial topics of conversation was Monday’s House Oversight hearing, where Comer and Raskin were among a bipartisan group of lawmakers calling for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle after growing frustrated at the lack of “accountability and transparency” in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Comer, the chair of the committee, and Raskin, the ranking Democrat, co-signed a letter calling for Cheatle to resign, and she did so on Tuesday.

The two congressmen did not see quite so eye-to-eye on other matters, unsurprisingly, with Raskin rattling off a fervent defense of Vice President Kamala Harris as the new presumptive Democratic nominee — along with some swipes at Trump.

“You can only do common ground so long,” quipped Baier after Raskin’s commentary on the presidential race, before calling on Comer to discuss if it was now time to “call an end to the impeachment effort of President Biden?”

Comer defended the Republican-led efforts — which have drawn highly skeptical reactions from multiple Fox News anchors for their lack of results or evidence — arguing that the committee “did what we were supposed to do.”

“My job wasn’t to impeach,” said Comer. “My job was to investigate. And I investigated and we turned over our findings to Speaker [Mike] Johnson’s office. He can determine what do with that, but I believe the American people know a lot more about what the Bidens have done because of our work.”

Raskin then piped up with his take on the impeachment efforts.

“Well, I think Chairman Comer did a magnificent job exonerating Joe Biden of all the fraudulent charges that were raised against him in this Congress,” said a grinning Raskin, “and, of course, there was no high crime, no misdemeanor, and Joe Biden is a — he is a passionate public service filled with integrity –”

“Ah, I strongly disagree with that,” interjected Comer with a laugh. “Nobody’s buying that. Nobody’s buying what he’s selling on that.”

“America’s buying it,” said Raskin. “The reservoir of love for Joe Biden is deep and really bottomless in America.”

Baier chuckled during the back-and-forth and added, “You do disagree on a lot of things, as we can point out, but you do agree on some things you worked together on, and one of them was yesterday.”
