This past weekend, Reverend Al Sharpton tore into the NRA for the organization’s muted response to the shootings of two black men last week. Both Alton Sterling and Philando Castile had guns on them when they were fatally shot by police officers, and at least Castile had reportedly been licensed to carry.
Now, this led some people to question why the NRA wasn’t forcefully decrying how a black man was shot because of the gun he legally had in his possession. The NRA did issue a statement, but apparently it was not satisfactory.
Sharpton made this declaration on Saturday:
“Both of them were killed by police based on ‘they had gun[s]. Now, I missed the NRA coming out defending the gun rights they legally had! Where is the NRA now?! Where is Wayne LaPierre now? Do you have a Second Amendment right, or did you not get down, Mr. Pierre [sic], to the 14th, 15th and 16th Amendments? Maybe you mean the Second Amendment are for whites only.”
This is similar to comments made by a black congressman a few days ago, in which he said the NRA doesn’t care about the rights of black gun owners.
