Sitting Congressman Rails Against Partisan Rhetoric… While Guest Hosting Fox News Show
For the first time in recent memory, a sitting member of Congress hosted a cable news program.
Republican Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a consistent ally of President Donald Trump and his agenda, served as a co-host on the Fox News opinion program Outnumbered, and opened the show with a predictable jeremiad against the partisan rhetoric of the “new left.”
His comments came in the context of the recent viral video of recently elected Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who bellowed into the microphone of a MoveOn.org celebration Thursday night “we’re going to impeach the motherf*cker!”
In Gaetz’s esteem, Tlaib’s comment was emblematic of “the energy in the Democratic Party.” He proceeded to criticize his political rivals because their goal is “Not to bring solutions on health care, not to work with us on immigration, not to pass an infrastructure bill, but to impeach Donald Trump.”
Outnumbered is the Fox News noon-time opinion show which features a combination of four female hosts and contributors, with one male at the center of the studio couch. Typically, there is only one individual presenting a non-conservative point of view. And frequently, all five on the couch present a pro-Trump or conservative perspective.
So there is a bit of irony in Gaetz lamenting the rise of partisan rhetoric on a program known for consistently delivering partisan rhetoric.

Edit. note: turns out that sitting Congressmen have co-hosted Fox News programs numerous times in the past year. Fox News sent the following statement:
“Multiple politicians and pundits on both sides of the aisle have appeared as the ‘One Lucky Guy’ on Outnumbered as the show is formatted to have a rotating guest. Rep. Gaetz appeared in this capacity and did not co-host the show despite the factually inaccurate press release issued by his office.”
