‘Taking a Vacation in Mexico???’ Chris Hayes Can’t Believe Official DOGE Head Is Out of the Country Right After Starting New Job
The Trump administration finally named an official administrator of Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” – and it turns out she’s in Mexico.
President Donald Trump and White House spokespersons have been inundated with questions about who the official head of the organization is. During Tuesday’s White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt refused to say who is running DOGE, which has been laying off federal employees en masse.
Shortly after, an unnamed White House official said Amy Gleason is the acting administrator of the organization. Her LinkedIn states that she is a senior adviser at U.S. Digital Services. CBS News reached out to Gleason for comment, at which point she said she was in Mexico. Gleason did not comment further.
That the leader of the most-talked-about outfit in the federal government right now would be abroad hit a bit weird for Chris Hayes. The MSNBC host noted that in federal court filings, the Trump administration has insisted that Musk “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself.”
Hayes aired the clip of Leavitt declining to name the administrator of DOGE.
“Why?” he wondered aloud. “Later today, after that presser, the White House did give reporters the name of someone they now magically say is the DOGE administrator. It’s not Elon Musk. It’s, Amy Gleason?”
The host said Gleason has a background in healthcare and I.T. consulting, adding:
And really, get this. This is really amazing. Come close to the screen. When CBS News reached out to Gleason on Tuesday morning, she said she was in Mexico and declined to comment.
In other words, it appears that the administrator of this little crew that’s firing employees willy-nilly – people that do cancer research and give healthcare to veterans and take care of national parks was taking a vacation in Mexico one month into their time in office???
