The Daily Show‘s Hasan Minhaj spoke at the White House Correspondents Dinner tonight and roasted both President Trump (in his absence) and the journalists in attendance.
He tore into “the elephant that’s not in the room,” saying that the president is “in Pennsylvania because he can’t take a joke.” He roasted pretty much everyone in the administration before making this observation:
“We are living in the golden age of lying. Now is the time to be a liar, and Donald Trump is liar-in-chief.”
Of course, he also took shots at most of the news outlets in the room.
He admitted he was surprised to see Fox News show up, saying, “As a Muslim, I like to watch Fox News for the same reason I like to play Call of Duty. Sometimes I like to turn my brain off and watch strangers insult my family and heritage.”
But he also tore into both MSNBC and CNN too. MSNBC in particular he called out for freaking out so much about Russia. “I want to root for you guys,” Minhaj said, “but you’re turning into conspiracy theorists. Every night you’re like ‘the Russians hacked our elections!'”
He added, “I had a lot more MSNBC jokes, but I don’t want to just ramble on. Otherwise I might get a show on MSNBC.”
And then he turned to CNN––his “favorite entertainment channel”––and told Don Lemon that he might as well change CNN Tonight‘s name to “Wait a Second, Now Hold On, Stop Yelling at Each Other with Don Lemon.”
He also told the journalists that he understands how bad they must feel when one of them screws up and all of them get blamed.
“And now you know what it feels like,” Minhaj said, “to be a minority.”
