‘They Stole My Sushi!’ Henry Cuellar Speaks Out on the Worst Part of His D.C. Carjacking
Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX) managed to find some levity as he spoke about his carjacking on Monday night — which took place just about a mile away from the U.S. Capitol.
Cuellar joined MSNBC’s Jose Diaz-Balart to talk about his ordeal when assailants came up to him and stole his car while he was parked outside his apartment in Washington D.C.’s Navy Yard area. The congressman began by explaining how he tried to stay calm while surrendering his car keys when he saw “young punks with guns.”
“Within a couple hours, they were able to recover my phone and my car. Everything got returned,” Cuellar said. “I want to thank the Capitol Police and the Metro Police for doing their job, and that’s one of the reasons I support law enforcement because they really do a good job.”
As Cuellar continued to describe the theft and the quick response from law enforcement, he lightheartedly explained that the worst part about the whole incident was that his dinner was stolen too.
Like I said, they were able to recover the car and my phone within a couple hours, I wanna thank them. But what really got me upset, is that they stole my sushi! That’s what got me upset.
“They took your car AND your sushi,” Diaz-Balart dramatically repeated. He then asked if the thieves were caught.
Cuellar said he didn’t know, but he heard from D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser that law enforcement was still trying to find them. Before Cuellar’s ordeal, the last violent attack on a U.S. representative happened in February when Angie Craig (D-MN) was assaulted in her apartment building.
“I hope they do catch them because they do need to be prosecuted,” Cuellar as he continued to express his gratitude for law enforcement.
