Trump Agriculture Boss Says Cash-Strapped Americans Can Raise Their Own Chickens to Save on Eggs

President Donald Trump‘s Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has a message for egg consumers left hungry by out-of-control egg prices: Go cluck yourself — and buy a chicken to produce your own eggs.

Rollins offered the bizarre advice on Fox & Friends Weekend Saturday after anchor Rachel Campos-Duffy raised the possibility of an investment in small farms to boost egg production.

“I think the silver lining in all this is how do we, in our backyards — we’ve got chickens too in our backyard — how do we solve for something like this?’ Rollins said. “And people are sort of looking around thinking, “Wow, well, Maybe I can get a chicken in my backyard,’ and it’s awesome.”

The rising price of eggs has been a contentious issue in the Trump administration. A recent bird flu outbreak and new cage-free regulations are believed to be the culprits, Fox Business reported.

In January, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt blamed Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, for the sharp increase in egg prices in a fiery takedown of President Trump’s predecessor.

“I would like to point to each and every one of you that in 2024, when Joe Biden was in the Oval Office — or upstairs in the residence sleeping, I’m not so sure — egg prices increased 65% in this country,” Leavitt said. “We also have seen the cost of everything, not just eggs — bacon, groceries, gasoline — have increased because of the inflationary policies of the last administration.

“As far as the egg shortage, what’s also contributing to that is that the Biden administration and the Department of Agriculture directed the mass killing of more than 100 million chickens, which has led to a lack of chicken supply in this country, therefore a lack of egg supply, which is leading to the shortage.”
