CBS News’ Jeff Glor asked President Trump during their big interview today about the criticism he’s gotten from Republicans for projecting weakness at his press conference with Vladimir Putin.
Even Trump allies said it was one of the worst, if not the worst, days of his presidency.
But Trump said he disagrees, telling Glor, “I think I did great at the news conference. I think it was a strong news conference.”
Of course, Trump has spent the past two days clarifying and half-heartedly walking back some of what he said, claiming that he meant “wouldn’t” instead of “would.”
“You had people that said ‘You should have gone up to him, you should have walked up and started screaming in his face,'” Trump continued. “We’re living in the real world.”
He dismissed the “fuss” and lashed out once again at the “fake news,” saying “the press largely makes up a lot of the fuss about a lot of things.”
He told Glor that he knows some “honorable” journalists, but said, “The level of dishonesty in your profession is extremely high.”
When Glor pointed to press coverage of the actual substance of his press conference, Trump said they “didn’t cover” the meeting he had beforehand. (The meeting was closed to the press.)
