WATCH: CNN Panel Gangs Up on Pro-Trump Guest Over Mueller Probe
Stephen Moore is no stranger to ruffling feathers during CNN panel discussions, but his suggestion that the Mueller investigation was becoming stale caused some panelists to fire back.
“It’s time to wrap this up, or at least have a time limit on this,” Moore, a former economic adviser for President Donald Trump, said Thursday night. “I think that the American people are fair-minded about this,” he said, adding that “the idea that this should go on and on” makes it “start to look like a witch hunt.” Moore also implied Mueller was crossing a line by investigating the Stormy Daniels scandal and Trump’s financial dealings.
But that remark didn’t sit well with Karine Jean-Pierre, a spokeswoman for MoveOn.org.
“Can I just call out the hypocrisy,” she asked, going on to invoke the Hillary Clinton-linked Benghazi investigation. “When there was fast and furious in Benghazi, there was no–oh let’s stop this…There was no indictments, there was no criminal charges, but they went on with something that — there was nothing there. And here you have Robert Mueller in less than a year has gotten indictments, has gotten people to corroborate.”
The back and forth continued, with more an more of panel piling on.
Then, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin noted the investigation is hardly over before drawing the panel to a close.
“The Mueller investigation is not over. And despite my best efforts, is not an institution that leaks. So I don’t know what they’re doing,” Toobin said. “You know, I didn’t know they were going to indict 13 Russians, no one even knew they were investigating the Russians for the social media conspiracy case that they brought.”
He added: “I think we need to have a little patience…see what comes up.”
