WATCH: George Santos Runs From Reporters After Historic Expulsion From Congress
After being expelled by the House of Representatives on Friday morning, Rep. George Santos (R-NY) rushed to his car, running away from an onslaught of reporters and cameras.
Santos became the third member of Congress since the Civil War and the sixth member overall to be expelled from the halls of Congress. Santos faces numerous criminal charges, including for wire fraud, conspiracy, and laundering campaign funds.
Reporters rushed to confront Santos on the Capitol Hill Friday morning but his longtime aide Vish Burra kept a healthy distance between the expelled Congressman and the cameras as he fled the scene in a car. Santos fled the House chamber before the vote had finished.
The New York lawmaker had previously survived votes to expel him, including one brought by his fellow Republicans. Expelling a member from Congress requires a two-thirds supermajority in the House, a high threshold that Santos had so far avoided. However, a recent Ethics Committee investigation that Santos refused to testify in front of found that he had used campaign funds on Botox and OnlyFans — among many other allegations of wrongdoing.
On Friday morning, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) concluded the vote as the resolution passed with 311 yays to 114 nays, with 104 Republicans voting in favor of expulsion.
Since entering Congress almost one year ago, Santos became an instant source of controversy as it was discovered he had lied about almost every part of his personal background.
