GB News temporarily removed suspended host Dan Wootton from its website’s presenter line-up and deleted his bio Friday, restoring his profile Saturday.
The move comes just days after media watchdog Ofcom reported that the September episode of Dan Wootton Tonight, which resulted in the host’s suspension and guest Laurence Fox subsequent firing, was the most complained-about show of the year, drawing 8,867 complaints.
During the show, Fox made misogynistic remarks about journalist Ava Evans that sparked public uproar. The fallout was immediate. The presenter has officially remained on suspension and under investigation by the network for three months since.
Speculation that the investigation was concluded and that GB News had decided to axe Wootton was raised Friday, however, after the network appeared to have scrubbed him from its ranks. The change was first noticed by GB News Spin Room, which publishes on an X account that closely monitors and critiques the network.
A click through to Wootton’s former bio displayed a 404 error message that read: “Sorry, we can’t find the page you are looking for.”
GB News Spin Room told Mediaite UK that it checked for changes daily and that Dan Wootton Tonight had also been removed from the Shows page, although episodes were available on catch-up and GB News’ YouTube channel.
Mediaite UK reached out to GB News for comment but the network has not replied as of publishing.
UPDATE: GB News has now restored Wootton’s profile and bio to the website following Mediaite’s report. The network has not responded to requests for comment as to the cause of the temporary deletion. This article has been updated to reflect the development. (12/23/2023, 11:03 a.m. GMT)
