Getty Images Clarify Editorial Note On Kate Middleton Video Is Standard Procedure

Conspiracy theorist speculation was reignited Monday after Getty Images added a note to the video statement from Princess Kate Middleton in March about her cancer diagnosis, saying the video “may not adhere” to the organisation’s editorial policy.

The detail, noted and shared online, ignited a further flurry of speculation, particularly amidst the backdrop of recent controversies over edited royal family photos and concern over Middleton’s wellbeing.

Getty Images, however, explained the text was standard procedure for third-party content, in this case, provided by Kensington Palace. Other users, familiar with these processes, also confirmed the this was the case.

The video in question, documented by BBC Studios, was an address in March by the Princess of Wales, sharing the news of her cancer diagnosis and the commencement of preventative chemotherapy.

Filmed at Windsor, Middleton disclosed details about her abdominal surgery in January for what was initially believed to be a non-cancerous condition. The revelation was described by Kate as a “huge shock” to her family. The news comes as King Charles also undergoes treatment for cancer.

Attention on the video note follows closely on the heels of a controversy over a Mother’s Day photo of Middleton with her children, which the palace admitted had been digitally altered. The edit led multiple global news agencies to issue a “kill notice” on the image and remove Kensington Palace as a reliable source. The princess later issued a personal apology for the confusion caused by the photograph, attributing it to her amateur editing skills but not before conspiracy theorists had used the incident to peddle claims about the royal’s status.
