Actor Kevin Spacey addressed a slew of allegations against him on Friday in an exclusive interview with Dan Wootton as Channel 4 geared up to show a new documentary titled Spacey Unmasked on Monday.

The two-part documentary that will show on Channel 4 on Monday and Tuesday claims to offer a deep dive into Spacey’s life with “never-seen-before interviews and archive” footage, tracing his journey from childhood to his rapid ascent in Hollywood.

The former star of House of Cards and two-time Oscar winner engaged in a long form interview with Wootton, a former GB News host, shared on X in full on Friday evening denying any misconduct, though admitting past behaviour could have been seen as inappropriate.

“I take full responsibility for my past behaviour and my actions. But I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologise to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me,” Spacey said.

He continued, fiercely denying a transactional approach to sexual favours for career advancement: “I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favours, then I will help them out with their career, ever.”

The documentary features actors Ruari Cannon and Danny De Lillo, who both alleged inappropriate conduct by Spacey during his tenure as artistic director at London’s Old Vic Theatre.

Spacey dismissed these new claims as “ridiculous” and “completely offensive.” He admitted to flirting and some consensual relationships but underscored the legality of his actions.

“That may not have been the best decision and it’s not one that I would do today. But it happened. It wasn’t illegal, and nor has it ever been alleged to have been illegal,” he told Wootton.

Meanwhile, the Old Vic Theatre acknowledges its previous investigation into Spacey’s conduct did not result in any formal findings or complaints during his leadership period from 2004 to 2015.

On Friday morning Spacey publicly criticised Channel 4 on Thursday for not providing “sufficient details” on the new allegations, claiming the network allowed him only a week to respond to “new, anonymized, and non-specific allegations” that date back 48 years.

Spacey was cleared of several sexual offence charges involving four men from 2001 to 2013 during a London trial. Additionally, he prevailed in a US civil lawsuit in October 2022, where he faced allegations of making an unwanted sexual advance at a 1986 party. His lawyers argue that the airing of new “false and unverified allegations” serves no public interest.

Spacey Unmasked is set to air on Channel 4 on May 6 and 7 in the UK, and will be available on Max in the US.
