London Mayor Sadiq Khan Says Labour ‘Proud To Be Antisemitic’ In Awkward Live TV Slip
Conservatives Party and right-wing media pounced on a disastrous slip by London Mayor Sadiq Khan Thursday, who in an interview with Sky News said that the Labour Party is “proud to be antisemitic.”
The gaffe came during a discussion over accusations of antisemitism in the party, after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer suspended MP Gordon Jones over comments made about Israel. Starmer also was forced to drop his party’s Rochdale by-election candidate Azhar Ali this week who suggested Israel had a hand in facilitating a Hamas attack to “green light” invading Gaza.
Speaking to Sky News host Kamali Melbourne, Kahn said: “As far as I’m concerned that sort of language isn’t acceptable. And it certainly isn’t acceptable in a party like mine that is proud to be both anti-racist but also antisemitic.”
As the host in the studio resumed, Khan caught his error and quickly corrected himself: “I beg your pardon, tackling anti-semitism.”
The Conservative Party were quick to pounce on the clip, to score on the Labour Party’s turmoil.
