‘Fake News’: Rishi Sunak’s Sideways Hammer Technique Proven Right, Leaving Scoffers Red-Faced

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was mocked online Friday by confused social media users and political opponents alike as a snip from an ITV news broadcast showed him using a hammer sideways.

The segment was first shown on Thursday during an ITV News live broadcast. It showed Sunak using a planishing hammer for smoothing metal. Workers can use the broad centre of the head when working with delicate polished surfaces since the end of the hammer might cause damage.

Nevertheless, political opponents and commentators seized on the opportunity to make fun of the prime minister, sure that he was using the hammer “wrong.”

The official Labour Party X account joked that Sunak was “not the son of a toolmaker.”

Ex-Conservative MP Nadine Dorries, a long time critic of Sunak, took to X to ask: “Is this the first PM ever who has never seen a hammer, or paid for petrol, or filled up his own car?”

Despite the mocking and what the cynically cropped footage appeared to show, however, it emerged that Sunak was instructed to use the hammer that way.

Dorries, at least, has now deleted her tweet and denounced the video as “fake news.”

We’re still waiting on a correction from the Labour Party…
