WATCH: Customer Mistakes BBC Reporter For Staff During Live Report At Supermarket

BBC Breakfast reporter Ben Boulos was mistaken for a staff member during a live breaking news report at Birmingham Wholesale Market on Wednesday, after a member of the public asked him for some help.

While updating the nation on the latest inflation rates, Boulos, donned in a hi-vis safety jacket for health and safety reasons, just like the staff members that could be seen in the background, and was approached by an unassuming shopper. The customer, presumably confused by Boulos’ official-looking attire, walked into the shot, interrupting the live broadcast.

Demonstrating admirable composure, Boulos clarified his role to the unsuspecting shopper.

“I don’t work here, I’m just doing the news,” he said. “Sorry.” Despite the interruption, Boulos quickly regained his composure and continued his report.

Upon finishing his update, the show returned to host John Kay, back in the studio.

“Thanks for explaining that and thanks for fitting us into your shift at the market this morning,” Kay laughed. “What was happening just then?”

In good humour, Boulos played along: “Well, I can tell you that the aubergines and the peppers are £12 a box, if you want any I’ll pick some up for you.”
