After An Entire Morning, Republicans Yet To Save America

Well, I don’t know about you but this was not what I voted for. Whole hours after the election gave the Republicans control of the House, disillusioned voters woke up to find a country that had many of the same problems (if not more!) than there were on that heady morning of November 2nd. After an election run on the promises of change, I can’t think that I’m the only person looking at the unemployment numbers and feeling lied to, betrayed, and even lied to. Like many Americans, for me, 2012 can’t come soon enough.

When I think back on that night, all those hours ago, it’s as if it was a different lifetime. I remember being there, standing with my friends and watching John Boehner give his tearful speech and thinking, “Yes, this is the guy. This is the time.” Were we naive to think that one charismatic man could change anything? That he wouldn’t just end up being another career politician more interested in sleeping and having breakfast than in transforming the entire country? Maybe. But we were promised, dammit, and, last time I checked, promises mean something in America!

I know what some people will say. They’ll argue, “Hey, Jon, you need to give them time! They won’t be sworn into office for months and, besides, some of the races haven’t even been called yet.” Well, I have one response to those people. When I hear that argument, I just point out my TV. When I don’t like what I’m watching, all I have to do is press a button on the remote and instantly something better comes on and that requires information going to and from satellites. In space! Last time I checked, you don’t have to go to space to fix the economy! So what gives?

But really, it’s not just that the Republican-run House hasn’t fixed all of my problems. They’ve also forced a bunch of nonsense down my throat that I did not elect them for. Rand Paul spent his entire campaign talking about how he was going to end wasteful government spending. However, the instant he gets elected, he starts wasting time by going on every network possible to give a silly speech. Excuse me, Mr. Paul, I voted for you to save a nation, not to become a TV star.

Maybe we made a mistake on that special day. Fortunately, our Founding Fathers gave us a way to fix our mistakes. Come 2012, there will be a reckoning, my Republican friends, a reckoning of epic proportions. My brothers and sisters in arms will band together and we will vote as a referendum on this pathetic and useless government. We will kick them out and bring in some new blood who will change things and make me happy always. Perhaps the Democrats. Sure, things weren’t great when they were in power but it couldn’t possibly be worse than it is now.

So, get ready, Republicans. You had your chance. Now it’s time to get out of the way.
