Meeting the Bushes

Less than a week after being elected the Obama’s traveled to Washington to meet President and Mrs. Bush. The picture that the Times (and just about everyone else) ran on their front page the next day summed up as well as words could ever do, the changes that were in store for both the White House and the country. However, perhaps what is most amazing looking back is how normal it feels to see the Obama’s as our first couple, at the time I remember it being sort of shocking, in the best ‘can you believe this really happened’ sort of way.

We need a change to the Constitution that allows for a referendom on the quality of an administration after the first year.
It would allow a choice. Pick one in each section.
The President is doing a great job, lets keep him……………….___
Oh crap, what have we done. We need a do over………………..___

Congress is doing a great job, Let’s keep them as is…………___
Who elected those morons? Let’s switch party’s in
every district, nationwide. Let’s hold a lottery, any adult
citizen can buy a ticket (max 5 tickets per adult)…………………..___

9 Months… and what has been accomplished. A dead fly, beer, and a failed attack on FNC. A few good speeches, an (admittedly) undeserved award, and some legislation that probably won’t make it to law.

Well… Bush didn’t have the same kind of situation when he took office, now did he? No wars, no recession, etc. Additionally, by this time, 9-11 had already happened, and we were in Afghanistan… Bush’s approval numbers were way high.

But more importantly… does it matter? I thought Obama was elected to be BETTER than Bush… not to be equal to? Why would you want to compare them, to show how parallel they are? What does that prove?

After 95 episodes, the epic failure known as The Jay Leno Show airs its final episode tonight. Of course, Leno himself will be back after the Olympics, comfortably at 11:35pm all over again. Which was pretty much the problem to begin with - the 10pm offering started as a similar product to the Tonight Show, and only became more like the old format as time went on.

Governor David Paterson Rebuffs Rumors Of His Imminent Resignation

Embattled New York Governor David Paterson spoke publicly today about rumors of an impending scandal the imminent resignation that would come as a result. "The only way I'm not going to be Governor next year is at the ballot box. And the only way that I will be leaving office before is in a box." Video after the jump.
