“Absolutely No Hoax,” Says Balloon Boy Dad at Makeshift Press Conference

VIDEO

Picture 1Richard Heene, the father of the infamous Balloon Boy, called reporters to his house this morning for a press conference of sorts. The man who has had the media, and frankly everyone on the Internet atwitter, made it seem like a big announcement was in the works.

Instead, he only told the assembled reporters “Absolutely no hoax” before asking them to put their questions in a box so he could answer them later. He added that he doesn’t have cable, so he really has no idea what the media is saying about him.

Heene is proving himself to be a singular mix of high-brow, low-brow media savvy. His family has come to epitomize sketchy media attention grabbing in the last few days … which is impressive for somebody whose idea of a press conference involves putting questions in a box.

    Question:

    1. Why was there a box made under the balloon “with a door” that would hold and 80 pound person?

    2. Since there was a door made, it would have to be made for one of the kids to be sent up in the balloon. This should require Family Services to look at the intentions here because this would be putting the kid in danger.

    3. In my opinion this was a set-up job by the man for publicity. I’d put money on it that the door was not made very well (for effect) and the floor of the bottom couldn’t support an 80 lb. object. Therefore this whole “adventure” was a scam.

I think this family has set themselves up for immortal ‘Oh-you’re-the-ones-who…’ ridicule.
