Acting Mayor? Alec Baldwin Reportedly Mulling Mayoral Run After Weiner Scandal

video

In an exclusive report in The Daily, Richard Johnson reports 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin–long an activist in Democratic politics and someone who’s toyed with a run for office–is now seriously considering a run for mayor of New York, now that Rep. Anthony Weiner “appears to have sexted himself out of the 2013 race,” writes Johnson.

Johnson quotes a friend of Baldwin’s who says the collapse of Weiner’s viability as a candidate for mayor shuffles the deck and leaves an opening for a high profile star entry like Baldwin:

“Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,’ ” said Baldwin’s pal.

“The Democrats need a high-profile candidate, and Alec can fill that bill.”

Baldwin, a die-hard Democrat originally from Massapequa, a suburb on Long Island, N.Y., has said 2012 will be his last year on “30 Rock,” which would free him up for a 2013 mayoral run.

He’d be the biggest name by far to throw his hat in the ring to succeed Mayor Michael Bloomberg at “the second hardest job” in the nation, Weiner’s dream gig before his sordid fall from grace.

Baldwin recently told CNN’s Eliot Spitzer of his desire to enter politics. Watch it here, from CNN:

His abusive phone call to his daughter will be dredged up by the oppo. This should be fun. The corn’s a-poppin’ already. Can the Dems get any more self-destructive?

  • THE REAL ROYAL KING

    Well, this is going nowhere.

  • writer

A new concept. Have the scandals before getting elected.

  • catfishjuggling

Please replace the word “Trump” with “Baldwin.” Now replace “President“ with “Mayor.” Now we have our non-story about someone pretending he is planning to run.

Nothing to see here people. Move on.

He’d fit right in. New York is a corrupt and liberal cesspool anyway, let Alec be the King of Turdville where he can’t harm anyone but New Yorkers.

If this was true Weiner should have been gone long before this texting incident. His temper is maybe the worse i’ve ever seen and it’s always been amazing how it alone never became an issue. You know if a republican as much as snarled he would be accosted heavily as an unfit for politics angry nut.

Sad you have sided with the terrorists. New York can be a challenge, but its energy, its tenacity and its creativity are inspiration to the world.

The same applies to Chicago. I swear some of the rightists on this site and elsewhere, forget that small town America is often as much, if not more corrupt than large cities.

    Which terrorists by the way?

More corrupt than Chicago? Now you’re stretching it a bit.

And, the fact that crime is often far worse, on a per capita in small towns. Just look at the Mentholatum (less the “n” and everything after the “h” for the sake of the moderationister) Capital of Amerika, Wasilla.

Chicago is by FAR #1. Nobody can say otherwise with a straight face. And 2nd place can’t even see Chicago with a high-power scope.

So you can disparage entire sections of the country, covering millions and millions of people, but hands off NYC.

Can you believe this yutz somehow inserted terrorists AND Sarah Palin into thread about Alec Baldwin and New York City?

C’mon mediaite, I can yake the filthy language and the personal attacks, but the obtuse thread-jacking by an unstable poster is really really tiresome.

King, we know from DOJ crime stats where the highest crime areas are, but political correctness prevents you from mentioning it. More like complete denial.

  • Colorado_Conservative

Democratic politics have become a popularity contest….not to mention a joke!!

So sad and very scary that there are so many people who vote for someone with a nice smile or who is talented at reading from a teleprompter instead of voting for who is best qualified.

Bill Maher is right, anyone can be elected Pres in this fing country…Obama is proof of that.

When the Cars won their last World Series (we have 10) we also beat Detroit that year in violent crime. We had t-shirt mad that said…. “Saint Louis… #1 in baseball AND violent crime”

After some very bad experiences with actors in office in the previous decade, I would certainly support a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting actors from holding a federal office, and your suggestion is sound.

  • writer

tatboy, of course saying small town America has more per capita crime than the big cities is pure crap and DOJ stats prove it’s pure crap, but the left feels better saying it.

It is a shame that the most qualified people in this Country choose not to run because of the nastiness politics has become….They want no part of their families being attacked and their life history combed over with a microscope and then there are the lies…..and the amount of money it takes to win.
    It truly is a shame!

Fact: MSM love him and he would be a good match for the type of people he would serve. Negitive New York and Negitive Baldwin make a positive situation for that city alone.

Now who would attack a person’s entire family, just because they disagreed with that person’s politics?

Hey, no management experience in business, no government experience, he played in a TV show where he managed something, liberal fruit, he should get the Democrat vote easily.

Hey, he should stay in a Holiday Inn and drive the Dems to back him in droves.

When I was a kiddo, way back in the mid-60′s, Poppy worked for a couple of years in St. Louis, and we lived in Lebanon, Illinois. When we drove into St. Louis for dinner or cultural events or some sort of outing, as we approached E. St. Louis, Poppy would tell us to roll up the windows and lock the doors. There was even a sign on the east side of E. St. Louis, erected by the state, recommending locking doors. It’s been a tough place for a very long time.

I can’t believe E. St. Louis is dangerous. I’m sure the people there have delusions of being ‘chased’.

His cruel voice-mail name-calling his own child was the end of any hope for political aspirations.

30 Rock’s fading away, so it would be the right time… Many things pass with time, but attacking your own child never gets easier with time..

  • writer

‘Poppy’ was having delusions of being chased.

  • TeaPartyNation

EVERYONE must listen to balwin, America’s #1 parent, viciously berate and verbally abuse his daughter over the phone. (Recordings of baldwin’s unconscionable treatment of his daughter can be found on the internet.)

With such outlandish, sociopathic behavior, baldwin certainly fits the standard profile of a lunatic-left d-cRAT socialist, who totally ignores the views and wishes of others and does whatever he wants. Like the other socialists, he’s a dictatorial ruler of everyone that gets in his way. Kind of a male version of pelosi.

No wonder the lunatic-left want him in power. Rational people would want him placed in a mental institution.

  • ckw

Baldwin doesn’t have any idea, no clue, of the magnitude and complexity of tasks that the mayor of NYC must deal with on a day-to-day basis. He is manifestly unfit to be mayor if the nation’s crown jewel city. He’s just another actor who thinks that success on the big and/or small screen makes one fit to be a successful public servant. One would think that Baldwin would view the recent governor of California as an object lesson.

  • NORBIT

Wasn’t this misogynist supposed to leave the country if GW Bush won?

Isn’t that what this PAMPERED HOLLYWOOD BLOWHARD said?

  • mardec

Isn’t Alec Baldwin in a TV ad where he’s sitting next to and airline pilot as co-pilot and the pilot looks at him with a “what are you doing in that seat” look, and Baldwin turns to him and says, “Don’t worry, I’ve played the roll of a pilot in a movie before.”

Well Mayor of New York is not a job for someone who has played the role on TV or in a movie. You have to have real knowledge and experience in managing and running things. Just when you thought NYC couldn’t get any worse than it is under Bloomberg, you get this joker thinking he can do the job. Good luck, New Yorkers!

  • am_underground

The way they love their “liberal stars” in NYC, he should be a shoe in. The only other thing to beat him would be if Hillary decided to run, those NY libs and females would just be in a tither over that.

  • BOMBSHELL

His career at Airhead Amerika having waned, I guess “politiks” is his only opti.on
