Black Friday Protestors Set Their Sights On Christmas Season For ‘Occupy Xmas’

Yesterday was not only a big day for consumers and retailers, it was also big for the ‘Occupy’ splinter movement Occupy Black Friday. The movement called for a boycott of all large chain stores to hit the 1% during a critical shopping season. There were several small protests around the country, but it’s unclear if the movement had any measurable success. Now that Black Friday is over, the anti-corporate protestors are focusing on the Christmas season to launch a new wave of protests.

Occupy Xmas has the same goal as Occupy Black Friday: to protest rampant consumerism and feeding profits to the 1%. An Occupy Xmas website lays out exactly what the group stands for.

- Occupy Xmas supports small business instead of large business
- Occupy Xmas controls the political contributions of the retail lobby
- Occupy Xmas supports consumer responsibility
- Occupy Xmas supports personal financial education

The site makes it clear they are not trying to “destroy… the great American tradition of Christmas,” but they do not plan on resting during a season “in which the life of our country hangs in the balance.” Already there are plans for Christmas protests, including a rather creative method of standing up to consumerism in Idaho by dressing protestors up as zombies. Because nothing says “we have a clear agenda” more than looking like you dressed up for the wrong holiday.

“the great American tradition of Christmas,”

….they are not trying to “destroy… the great American tradition of Christmas,”

Does that mean they will be occupying Christian church pews in show of solidarity with Christians around the world as they celebrate this holy season?

Maybe they should rethink their message -”the great American tradition of hitting up a fabulous sale”

Maybe they should try occupying their families and homes for Christmas, giving occupied gifts, having occupied fun with occupied family and friends.Trim an occupied christmas tree, sing occupied carols,be a occupied human being for a few occupied days.
    Have a happy occupied holiday!

Not sure that this will further endear them with the masses. They should be protesting the not made in America cycle we are in and to make sure that they support retailers – whether they be large or small – that sell American made products:

And is a note – change the name – Occupy Christmas is not going to go over well with those who celebrate the holdiay is the birth of their savior – maybe occupy consumerism. commercialization – or soemthing like that

“Occupy” is pretty much a punchline at this point.

what does any of that have to do with the supposed meaning of christmas?

all i read in your post (aside from spending time with family and friends) is “support the consumerism of Christmas”; not embrace the message of Christ.

How about supporting donations?  Food drives? Clothing drives? Giving to charity instead of to each other? Of kindess towards fellow man?

    Thank you, but no.

occupy is defunct.  it is passe.  it is the wannabe movement of this decade. the only support it had was whatever  could be conjured by “journalists”, and I use that term loosely.  they have no street politicians, philosophers or civil disobedience leaders.  they are anarchists that would loot and destroy property as soon as the power went out.  they are hoodlums professing concern for the wll being of others when in reality they are as greedy as the corporations the say they hate but prove their undying support for every day.

keep occupying ….  i will keep working and pay for your freebies…. it is the new american way   responsible citizens work ,  obamaites sit on their ass and collect the freebies

    Zombies?! Lolol

As long as they don’t go after Christmas I don’t mind if they go after Big Santa. :)

Small business could use a little love. They haven’t got it from this President!

    Mitt 2012!

    Moron.

This ‘movement’ will spend the next year hopscotching from cause to cause to try to gain traction so someone will pay attention to them.  First, it was Wall Street.  Then it was Thanksgiving.  Now, on to Christmas.  Each one of their attempts undermines what little credibility they may have had.  They appear to be the anarchist, disenchanted, delusional part of the 99%.   They’re the 1% of the 99%, the antithesis of the 1% they’re allegedly protesting against.

No, it isn’t and no, they didn’t.

The Occupy Creed: “We’re very angry!”

  • Pablo

Wait…you think Occupy is going to do that? Now that’s funny.

  • Ron

It seems to me that the very same group of people that object to Nativity scenes and want the term “Christmas” banned from schools and government are now going to “Occupy” that in which they do not believe! These people seem to change their beliefs whenever it suits their purposes. Just what do they believe in and what, specifically, are their goals? Inquiring minds want to know!

get off your soapbox.  That wasn’t the story and nobody cares.

wildbiker if you consider the numbers involved they do not amount anywhere close to 0.00001%. Let them bask in their stupor.

When you combine the money given to these pinheads and the dumbing down of public education they have experienced through their schools and universities, the end result is the what you see and hear. They with the endosement of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and their ilk are hell-bent on destroying  our country from within. Most of the members of Congress are in the one per-cent….Where are the protestors?

the starter of this entire fiasco is upset because Canadian’s diidn’t support his “agenda” to the extent he thought they should.

Pretty pathetic when an idiot sitting in Vancouver can start some movement that costs the taxpayers millions that goes viral around the world.  Didn’t make sense out of the starting gate and now the more add ons the dumber it is.

Should have know the democrats would clap cheer and carry on like it was the smartest idea evah!

I’m still waiting for the Rezko story and Obama’s clean hands in that mess.  What do you think my chances are of seeing that one exposed?  Nah – lets focus on low life no lifes who want to disrupt the world to prove they can.   I’m sure there are a bunch of democrats sitting around clapping their hands and thinking they fooled anyone about why they threw their support behind this nonsense.

Just for your info, Christmas is not the Birth of our Savior, do your homework~You decorate a triangle green tree with gold and silver balls of ho ho…Anyone who actually checks this out will find the truth. They have commercialized this so you will BUY THEIR GOODS AND MAKE THEM RICH. Jolly old number they pulled on all us eh? Do your research…Jesus was NOT BORN ON CHRISTMAS. What foolishness. But hey gift giving and spending your money and going broke was another one of their ideas.

  • Anonymous

Katy – first – relax. Second – yeah - Jesus was not actually born on Christmas – but that it without doubt, it is the day that Christians celebrate the birth (I think that is why they call it “Christ-mas” vs. December 25th). Besides, what do you think you could argue to them here “hey – it’s okay we mess with your special day because we know it ain’t is real birthday????  Now myself, I’m not a believer, so I don’t really take umbrage. But – I know a lot of folks who would. Also – think you need to take care with your pronouns – who are the “theys” and “thems” in your anger. No one in the movement buys gifts? No one in the movement has a job in a retail establishment?

So go ahead – occupy Christmas and lose even more folks who would otherwise be empahtic with your cause.

Occupy Christmas isn’t going to work.
