Police Officer, Three Others Killed as Shooter Opens Fire Near a Chicago Hospital (UPDATES)
An active shooter has opened fire near Mercy hospital in Chicago — wounding multiple people, according to reports.
The Chicago Tribune reports that a police officer is among those believed to have been shot. The Tribune reports that 15 ambulances have been dispatched to the scene as it is being categorized as an active shooter situation, but fewer than six people are believed to be injured — according to the most recent information.
Anthony Gugliemi — the chief communications officer for the Chicago Police Department — confirmed reports of the officer being wounded and that an offender was shot:

UPDATE 6:23 p.m. ET — ABC News is now reporting that three people including the officer were injured. The suspect is dead.
UPDATE 8:40 p.m. ET — Gugliemi reports that the officer, Samuel Jimenez, has died.
