Brock Turner Released From Prison After Serving Three Months For Sexual Assault Conviction

06-brock-turner-booking-photo.w529.h352Brock Turner, the former swimmer at Stanford who was convicted on three felony counts for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman, was released from a San Jose prison early Friday after serving three months of a six-month sentence.

At 6:07 a.m. PT, Turner briskly left the Santa Clara County Main Jail with his head down, trying to avert his eyes from the bevy of photographers and reporters lined up outside.

The sentence, which was handed down by judge Aaron Persky, was met with widespread anger. An emotional letter penned by the victim fueled the public outcry even more.

The early release is all but certain to stoke similar outrage. According to a CNN report, Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith is among those who believe Turner should still be behind bars.

“We don’t know who picked him up or where he’s going, but we’re done with him,” Smith said. “He should be in prison right now, but he’s not in our custody.”

Turner is now expected to live with his parents in Dayton, Ohio. According to the CNN report, Turner could be classified as a tier III sex offender in Ohio, the highest tier. Among other things, a tier III classification would require Turner to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
