DEA Agent Is Suing Government For Allegedly Releasing Video Of Him Shooting Himself In The Foot

Video

Undercover DEA agent Lee Paige learned the hard, painful way that whatever happens on video… immediately goes on YouTube. Paige is currently attempting to sue the U.S. government for releasing a video of him shooting himself in the foot with a Glock during a presentation about drug education at a Florida community center in 2004.

In April of 2006, Paige filed a complaint alleging that the video’s release harmed his reputation after it appeared online and was broadcast on several television news shows. According to Paige, the DEA possessed sole footage from the talk and, therefore, someone within the department must have put it online or released it to the media. In fact, his lawyers claimed someone within the DEA “with animosity for Paige” had released the video on purpose and with malicious intent. At the time, lawyers for the government felt Paige did not provide evidence to back up his claims, and the identity of the person responsible for circulating the video remains unknown. A mystery is afoot, one might say.

Earlier this week, Lee was able to successfully get the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to overturn a December ruling terminating his original lawsuit.

“Guns don’t shoot people, loaded guns shoot people…” sadly at the hands of supposed “professionals”

What a dumbass he was for displaying a loaded weapon in class full of people… kids no less. Their are simulated guns available if he wanted to do a show and tell.

“… harmed his reputaiton…” ahhh, no… the classic “Did ya hear about the DEA agent that displayed his sidearm in a class full of kids…?” would have done much more “harm” and have left a lot more to the futile imagination of his fellow agents. At least with the video he could say “yeah, I was a regular plain olde dumbass but check out the video, I ‘m wasn’t the super duper dumbass you say I was.”

Another candidate for failblog.org. Sigh. “This is an unloaded gun…..BANG!”

He failed to check if the gun was loaded. And deliberately pulled the trigger. At least he didn’t point the gun at his own head. If you are going to teach kids something, you need to be smarter than they are! His loss of reputation should have been followed by the loss of his job. It’s not that hard to prepare for a teaching demonstration by unloading your demo weapons first.

At least he may have taught the kids both an unintended lesson in gun safety and that adults and law enforcement are not infallible.

This is so old but it was good to see again. Kind of like getting a phone call from an old friend.

    .

This has been on the internet for years. The comedic timing of the gun discharge is what makes it so funny.

This is Standard Operating Procedure for DEA Agents. The video was a training film.

Idiot should have been fired. Loaded gun in a classroom of kids, he was pointing it wildly before he shot himself in the foot. Can anyone explain why this moron still has a job where he packs?

  • More Liberty3

I’m all for suing a corrupt and defunct government but this is ridiculous.

Actually Alex, loaded guns don’t pull their own triggers….idiot government agents do.

On a side note, was this moron fired?

  • Harry Flashman

    Heh. That’s rich.

This goober violated every safety rule in the book (including the one about keeping your damn finger off the damn trigger) and he’s suing somebody else because he’s a dumbass. If I had been his supervisor I’d have seen him suspended for this.

Here’s clue for him – keep your finger off of the trigger and the gun is a nice paperweight.

    This video is years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PurrplePam

He should be fired, the gun should NEVER have been loaded with a room full of children !!!

    But his appeal is not.

However this guy’s law suit turns out, he’s an idiot. As an Army military police officer of 25 years service, I can tell you that you don’t demo gun “safety” in front of any audience, much less civilians, much less school children, with live ammo. You either demo what you want to show them “dry fire” or, at most, you use blanks if you want the shock effect of a fired round.

This guy is a dumbass who endangered everyone in that class room and who, as a minimum, should’ve been immediately suspended.

I’m amazed at the kinds of idiots that I see who have made it into Fed LE. This clown looks like a reject from Bad Boys 2. Listen to his ramble about rappers. His head is not in the game. Most of these idiots are able to join the Feds because of “points” awarded due to military service. I’ve seen applicants with PhDs, MBAs, 4.0 GPAs, and years of work service be passed over because of these points. See what you get? I personally know of dozens of applicants who were passed over because the FEDs would drag their feet on processing info or completely cancel a process in which many had been going through for 4-5 years only to have to re-apply. Meanwhile, these guys with points go right in and the others age out (turn 37). I’m all about allowing vets to have a leg-up but I want you to have a leg-up only if you are qualified. Does being in the military for a couple of years take the place of college degrees, graduate degrees, years of professional experience, and physical fitness? I do not believe it does. FOXNEWS should do a report on the FED application process. We’d all see the hiccups, passovers due to age (turning 37 sucks), delays, bad polygraphs, and all of the other fun. Just go to the main websites for FED LE jobs or forums and read-up. Many dreams are dashed and then wounds re-opened every time we see these idiots shoot themselves or just get employment.

Why are the parents of these children suing this idiot who was waving a loaded gun at them, off safety?!?!? DEA protocols have been breached….basic gun safety rules have been breached….I feel this guy should be charged with reckless endangerment of an entire classroom!!! Privacy be damned, he broke laws!!!!

  • Harry Flashman

    AFastRN asks:

“Why are the parents of these children suing this idiot who was waving a loaded gun at them, off safety”

A Glock doesn’t have a safety. Other than that it’s a good question.

  • GDC

“Guns don’t shoot people, loaded guns shoot people” WRONG it is IDIOTS and the mentally sick that shoot people. This DEA agent fits both IDIOT and Mentally sick.

Although a gun “may” not be loaded it should ALWAYS be treated as if it is loaded. Never, ever pull the trigger unless you intend to shoot what the gun is pointed at. The person is the ultimate safety on all weapons.

  • X-3

With idiots like this carrying guns and badges, we should be reminded again just how important are our rights to keep and bear arms.

“DEA Agent Is Suing Government For Allegedly Releasing Video Of Him Shooting Himself In The Foot”

ALL taxpayers better hope he doesn’t win this suit, because if he does, every other dumb-A** federal bureaucrat will have a precedent to sue us.

  • Just_MC

What really pisses me off is this demand for privacy: he’s a PUBLIC EMPLOYEE who was probably ON THE CLOCK when pulled this stunt. Government monitors and searches us more and more with no probable cause, and yet wants more and more of its own actions proctected from public scrutiny.

Some of you may have noticed some recent stories where police are arresting or threatening arrest of people who simply video police activity and arrests in PUBLIC places. For instance, a cop who is roughing up someone in a traffic stop threatening the driver’s friends for simply standing at a polite distance and video taping the cop’s actions.

The best thing in history to keep police abuses in check is the proliferation of recording equipment.

Wonderland is backwards as usual. The government should not be able to search or otherwise inspect the people withour a warrant certifying that a neutral judge sees probably cause of a crime. But we ought to be able to put a camera on every public sector worker, read HIS email and browsing history, and audit their finances, etc. You don’t like it? Don’t work for the government. But so long as WE have to pay for you, we should get to scrutinize where are money is going and whether you are doing what we’re forced to pay you to do.

  • murphy0071

There is no way he will win this suit. It is at best frivolous. He may find himself being ordered to pay all attorney fees and court costs for bringing such a suit. Indeed, as suggested the parents of each child and any adults present should file suits against him personally. One can only hope the statute has not run since the incident.

Supposedly legislation was passed to reduce frivolous law suits, but obviously we are stilled vexed by them at every turn.

  • LarryB

Thanks Lee! I had never seen this video before. If you hadn’t brought this lawsuit, it likely wouldn’t have made the rounds on the Internet again, and I would have missed out on one of the best laughs I have had in a long time! So, these are the guys who terrorize people for possessing pot? Scary.
