Derek Jeter Starting Athlete-Run Site to Remove ‘Filter’ Between Players, Fans

You know whose viewpoint is totally marginalized in contemporary discourse? Professional athletes. Forced to bleet “no comment” to everything, this historically disadvantaged class has suffered too long for lack of outlet.

Derek Jeter is here to change all that. Realizing that he’s soon going to be very bored existed for his entire career behind a force field of handlers, Jeter aims to bring athletes and fans closer, though not so close that they’re in the same, you know, room. Let’s keep this online:

Abrams Research (the former consulting firm created by Mediaite founder Dan Abrams) was tapped by Jeter’s team in 2012 to collaborate on the concept. Abrams Research helped develop the name and content ideas, and then last year passed the theplayertribune.com URL to Jeter’s team so they could further develop the concept.
