Drudge on 2016 Olympics: World Rejects Obama
And so it begins.
Huffington Post’s Jason Linkins did a fine job, the other day, of cataloging the right’s sudden antipathy for chants of “USA! USA! USA!” Now, with the news that the IOC has rejected Chicago’s 2016 Olympic bid in the first round, conservatives are in the awkward position of trying to slam the President for failing to achieve the very thing they just said was a horrible waste of time.
First up to the spinning plate, naturally, is Matt Drudge, who immediately ran the headline “World Rejects Obama.” No word yet on which media outlet will run “Mission Accomplished:Conservative Anti-Olympic Campaign Succeeds.”
On the other hand, CNN went almost immediately to some fancy backspin. In this clip, you can hear the CNN anchor’s stunned reaction:
Quickly thereafter, however, he unspools some righteous backpedaling:
“Cities lose money hosting Olympic games, so maybe there’s a bit of a blessing in disguise here…”
They also have an article to that effect that was posted on CNN.com shortly after the announcement. All that remains now is for someone to blame Bush, and someone else to call the IOC “racist.”
In case any of you still cares, the IOC has now voted to award the 2016 Olympics to Rio de Janiero.

Most foreign countries just don’t like America, period. All of Obama’s apologizing and bowing and grandiloquent rhetoric doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. We are a country free from government intrusions into our lives, we are successful and rich and maybe a bit vulgar, but we are America. Why on earth Barack Obama wants to change all that is beyond me. It will all end failure and maybe even a Third World War.
You are so right Jim. Obama should have learned what weakness in the world did to America when Carter was acting like a baffon as President.
I guess Obama doesn’t have the “magic touch” that all his supporters thought he had. Not only did Chicago fail to win, it was the first city to be eliminated. Even the appearance of his wife and Oprah didn’t make any difference.
I think Rush Limbaugh said it best — “The IOC bitch slapped the Obamas”
Oh brother!! the “Real Americans” speak
I wish these people blaming the loss of the Olympics on Obama would explain to me why the competing cities spend millions of dollars preparing detailed presentations of how they would handle the Olympics if they were chosen if they are actually awarded based upon speeches taking a few minutes. The choice of a venue is a very complex matter encompassing plans for event sites, housing competitors, housing audiences, transporting both to and from relevant sites as well as the competence evidenced by the skill with which the presentation was put together. Then there are the more sentimental aspects, who the judges are, whom they know, whether the applicant’s part of the world has been included too much or too little. I do think the latter was a factor this time, it seems to me that it’s time to include South America.
I don’t think anybody is saying “Obama is the reason why American lost.” Rather, they’re saying “despite of Obama, America lost.” In other words, Obama (who apparently thought his presence would ’seal the deal,’ hence the last-minute decision to go) was rebuffed by the rest of the world, and isn’t apparently as great as he think he is. As Drudge said, “The Ego Has Landed.”

“I’m With Coco Artist” Hits Jackpot, Sort Of

The Conan O'Brien effect is vast: Ever since the late night host began his fight with Jay Leno for NBC's coveted time-slot, the "I'm With Coco" campaign has taken over Facebook, Twitter, and every other social-networking platform you can think of. O'Brien's own Twitter account made waves went it first went up, and then again last week when he followed his first fan - Sara Killen - who then became a micro-celebrity herself. Now the man behind "I'm With Coco" image has stepped out from behind his Banksy-esque silence to talk about his new-found success as the official designer for Conan's tour posters.
