Funny Opie And Anthony Video ‘Trolls’ The Wall Street Protesters

There’s something tricky about parodying the overly earnest. Sincerity perfectly lends itself to mockery (there’s a reason we’ll be seeing soap opera sketches long after there aren’t any actual soaps left). However, making fun of people for standing up for what they believe in has the risk of seeming overly cruel or reductive. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the “humor” culled from the Occupy Wall Street protests has been like…well…this. A new video from Opie and Anthony, though, works thanks to the absolute gusto of comedienne Kelley Lynn.

The video features Lynn wandering the protests holding increasingly bizarre and (sometimes) offensive signs. And, while it occasionally, does fall into the “Look how stupid these hippies are!” gutter that much of the OWS parodies have wallowed in, the absurdity of Lynn holding a sign that says “This sign makes me important” works.

The standout though is a series of shots of Lynn interrupting a silent protest with song. Completely d**kish? Yes, very much so. But, even if you don’t find it funny, it could actually serve a purpose in helping the cause. Unless there’s a deleted scene where fists start flying in Lynn’s direction, this video may be the best proof yet that the protesters are actually peaceful.

Have they cleaned up a street or helped at a soup kitchen?
Have they volunteered to do tutoring at any of the schools near the park?
Or visited a senior citizens’ home?
Or a VA hospital?
