Iowa’s Republican Governor Wants the Voters of His State to Reject Ted Cruz
The Republican governor of Iowa came out hard against Ted Cruz today, pretty bluntly saying that he wants to see the voters of his state reject Cruz on caucus day.
According to The Des Moines Register, Branstad told reporters today he has serious problems with Cruz because of his opposition to the Renewable Fuel Standard, given how ethanol is an important issue in Iowa.
Given that, Branstad is amazed that Cruz is leading in Iowa, saying, “He’s heavily financed by Big Oil. So we think once Iowans realize that fact, they might find other things attractive but he could be very damaging to our state.”
“We should not support someone,” Branstad argued, “who is opposing those things that are critically important to the economic well-being of our state.”
He very directly said that “it would be a big mistake” for the voters of Iowa to back Cruz, and when asked by a reporter if he wants to see Cruz defeated, Branstad said, “Yes.”
Well, guess who immediately pounced on that one:
Wow, the highly respected Governor of Iowa just stated that "Ted Cruz must be defeated." Big shoker! People do not like Ted.
