‘I’ve Interviewed Murderers’: Dan Abrams Rips Backlash Over Megyn Kelly’s Alex Jones Interview

Megyn Kelly and NBC are receiving a ton of criticism from advertisers and social media users about a scheduled Sunday Night interview with conspiracist provocateur Alex Jones.

But Mediaite founder Dan Abrams thinks it’s all completely unwarranted. Appearing on Good Morning America Tuesday, Abrams noted that major outlets often interview violent criminals without this type of viewer and advertiser criticism.

“I don’t think this is a close call,” Abrams said. He added, “[T]he notion that NBC shouldn’t even put him on the air — I’ve interviewed murderers before, so has every major network,” Abrams said. “And we don’t get this kind of backlash.”

Abrams added:

I mean what Alex Jones says is often reprehensible. Sometimes it’s crazy. He’s also incredibly influential. He has a lot of followers and the President of the United States himself has cited him favorably, talked about how much he supports Alex Jones. The notion that the answer to that is to ignore him is absurd.

GMA host George Stephanopoulos challenged Abrams, noting that Kelly and NBC are providing Jones a platform. Abrams said that he’s already influential, with or without the NBC exposure.

“The key is you have to expose people like this,” Abrams said. “You have to challenge them. I think he is a big enough deal. I mean, look, the fact that we’re talking about it and so many people are talking about it. Why? Because I guess he’s a big enough deal.”
