James Cameron Calls Glenn Beck A “F*cking A**Hole”

» 29 comments

Glenn Beck is not making many friends in high profile places these days. Yesterday Cokie Roberts was quoted calling him “worse than a clown. He’s more like a terrorist.” Today comes word that Avatar director James Cameron does not think terribly highly of the Fox News powerhouse, either. To put it mildly. This from the Hollywood Reporter from a “lashing” Cameron gave Beck during a press conference Tuesday:

“Glenn Beck is a fucking asshole. I’ve met him. He called me the anti-Christ and not about ‘Avatar.’ He hadn’t even seen ‘Avatar’ yet. I don’t know if he has seen it … I think, you know what, he may or may not be an asshole, but he certainly is dangerous, and I’d love to have a dialogue with him … He’s dangerous because his ideas are poisonous … I couldn’t believe when he was on CNN. I thought, what happened to CNN? Who is this guy? Who is this madman? And then of course he wound up on Fox News, which is where he belongs, I guess.”

Alas, I suspect the chances of Beck inviting Cameron on his show are fairly slim, though it would certainly be awesome. One suspects the 3-D glasses wouldn’t even be necessary.

Update: We hear Beck will address the comments on his FNC show tonight.

    Once again, attack the messenger. But maybe Cameron should look at Beck’s message instead, and tell us which parts of the Bill of Rights he dislikes so much.

    Thanks James Cameron for making me love you a lot more. Always been a fan…now I’m even a bigger fan.

  • writer

    I’m sure Glenn is desolate over Cameron’s opinion of him. We all know that there’s no bias in Hollywood.

  • TylerDurdin

    James needs to look into the mirror before he talks.

  • cappi

    It is becoming very apparent that it is the left that is engaged in hate speech and coordinated media efforts to paint conservatives in a bad light.

    Hello, kettle. This is pot calling . . .

  • MichelleF

    You’re correct cappi, the media is doing it’s best to paint those on the right, and independents who disagree with the admin as racist, violent, uneducated thugs. They only highlight “supposed” incidents on the right, but blantantly ignore the same on the left or worse, try to blame it on the conservative. It’s pretty pathetic, but I only expect it to get worse.

    An example of this is how they have ignored the hate and violence from the left directed at Ann Coulter, because it doesn’t fit the template. Or how the recent incidents with violence, they tried to paint them as right leaning, when the evidence didn’t support it. The lefty professor that shot of her college didn’t get alot of play, not surprisingly. But I think we all know that most of the hatred and violence that occurs is from the left.

    At least the mask is off now, and that’s why the public overwhelmingly doesn’t trust the media.

    It is remarkable when you weigh the fact that Chris Matthews has had a share of comments lately that could be “considered” violent, and Ed, and Keith – yet where is the criticism of them? Funny how only those opinions coming from the Right are interpreted as “dangerous”, “poisonous”, “traitorous”, ect. Cokie Roberts has branded Glenn a traitor and a terrorist — yet when the same type of commentary was being leveled against George Bush the media defended it as healthy and patriotic.

    Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Unless a Democrat is in office. Then keep your mouth shut.

    Michelle F:

    You are absolutely right. I wonder whether Mediaite will do a follow-up to their story earlier this week wherein the VP of Ottawa warned Ann Coulter that it is illegal to speak without “respect and civility” in Canada or to “promte hatred against any identifiable group” and then she was greeted by angry, violent mob of two thousand protesters who refused to let her speak. So much for “respect and civility” being the standard for free speech in Canada.

  • Ted

    I agree. The msm made the tea-baggers shout racial slurs, carry the requisite signs of violence and Obama as Hitler. As a matter of fact, rumor has it that a msm reporter told a tea-bagger to spit at a Congressmen…I think that came from Fox.

    So we have the “its just satire” defense and the “no video” defense and of course now we have the “media made the tea-baggers look like racists” defense. Well done everyone!!

  • Lurker

    Why would you say Beck inviting Cameron on the show are fairly slim? Beck’s not Olby, he’s not afraid to debate and I’m pretty sure he’ll dismantle Cameron easily.

  • Arkansas Steve

    The worst part of this “blurb” is that it really isn’t a story at all. Mr. Cameron’s political opinions aren’t any more relevant than Glynnis’ taste in clothing.

    The BIG question is: Why isn’t Ms. MacNicol working for MSNBC getting coffee for Keith & Rachel?

  • TfT

    Since when is Cokie Roberts considered “high profile”?

  • germ

    The reason for this story is quite clear after watching the stories on the front page all morning – Mediate doesn’t care about objectivity. All of the columnists that try to pass themselves off as reporters wear their ideology on their sleeve. It may not seem like much, but it is how the columnists word a headline, phrase a sentence, hide a back-handed snarky comment within a story, and omit facts that do not help them with the story.

  • PureFreedom

    If Cameron said he liked Beck then I would be real worried that Beck is not doing his job.
    I am happy Cameron hates him then I know there are people out there like Beck who care about our country’s morals and values and does not follow the Obama elitist views.
    Did anyone see the video of some guy just asking for Cameron’s autograph at the airport a few months back and how Cameron treated him and his fans. Classic liberal attitude.

  • Bias-Media

    Never thought much for Cokie Roberts…always thought she was a liberal disguised as a moderate on ABC. I’ve only heard her say a few things that leans towards the center in a way like she believed it.

    As for Cameron, always a big fan; have been since the Terminator. Although I didn’t like his Jesus Christ mockumentary. He has his right to free speech, and at least he didn’t just now become a Beck hater b/c Beck is now attacking a Democrat. Seems like he’d disliked Beck since back when Beck was attacking the corruption in the Bush days.

    To put his comment into proper context, Cameron is part of modern day Hollywood…the elite-ist who believes Americans are bad…especially if you are a Republican…so I’ll put only 2 cents worth of my time into his political comments.

    …still will like his movies though…the guy is talented…

    Of course Cookie Roberts is a liberal: HER FATHER WAS HALE BOGGS for Pete’s sake! She’s not just a liberal but a hard-core partisan. (Though, in fairness, I think Hal Boggs had it right about the single bullet theory.)

    I put Beck on about the same level as Bill Maher — both are provokative and say things that intentionally garner steep reactions from the opposite pole. Yet I have not heard nearly the amount of experts clamoring for Maher to be silenced, and that his brand of speech is dangerous, et al.

  • Bias-Media

    @MartiniShark

    to the extent that Mahar attacks Conservatives & Republicans the same way Beck attacks Progressives, I would agree.

    However, Mahar is highly partisan. To him, There are no good Republicans, and there are no bad Democrats. I take strong issues with that…especially when he won’t call out corruption when the Democrats are guilty of it…but will make it his life’s work to point out Republican corruptions…

    This is why I appreciate Beck. more so than Mahar. Corruption is corruption. Doesn’t matter what political party is committing it.

    As I said before, if you are a Progressive, you will not like Beck. Just ask Jon Stewart…who’s equally provakative in his own way…

  • shle896

    I would have thrown a few more adjectives in there, but other than that, Cameron is right on. Pathetic. Yes, he’s definitely also pathetic.

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

    @Bias-Media

    I was only comparing the two based on their provokative nature. With Maher I always hear how intelligent he is and how well-thought out his opinions are, but Beck runs laps around him in terms of research and evidence.

    Note too that when Maher utters a highly-charged phrase he is allowed the latitude of humor and satire, but Limbaugh is never permitted the same.

  • Nachi

    I’m not a Cameron fan, but he’s certainly accurate on this one. Actually it’s a fair description of ALL GOPsters.

    What a coincidence, because the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thinks that James Cameron is a fucking asshole, too.

    But hey, it’s an honor to just be nominated… and to lose in nearly every category to your hot ex-wife.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tony-Westover/1496648721 Tony Westover

    @Lurker,

    Beck’s style of show doesn’t really fit bringing in opposition personalities and interviewing them. Beck’s show isn’t masquerading as a news show nor as some sort of cross-fire. He also doesn’t use it to boost himself, like O’Reilly frequently does for instance. Beck’s a commentator, his show is about interpreting the news and getting behind the MSM story to the real story. The best part of his HLN show was when he’d do this and his Fox show is devoted to the format.

    Some bringing in someone like Cameron would just be a waste of time. He’s a hater, which is fine I doubt Beck really gives a shit. But more importantly he wouldn’t bring any substance to the show, and Beck hates wasting his viewer’s time. Unlike the rest of the haters and the MSM, Beck doesn’t underestimate the intelligence of his viewers. The fact that he appreciates them and respects them is the biggest reason why he’s so popular. Contrast that with say Rachel Maddow, who frequently insults the intelligence of her viewers; after the new shine of her show wore off her ratings have been in the toilet.

    I disagree, Beck is nothing like Bill Maher… Other than they both tell jokes… Beck speaks of his belief in the American people, where as Maher, on a number of occasions as of late has called the American people stupid. Beck merely points out facts on his show, and yes just like anyone else he can get things wrong… But he lacks the hate that Maher has for the USA… I cannot remember the last time I heard Beck say, we have to drag people to health care, they are to stupid to know any better..(One of Maher’s quotes) One is quite humble admits he has made mistakes before, the other thinks he knows better than you, and there for you should not have the right to run your life…

    Anyone holding his/her breath until Beckerhead invites Cameron on his show? I thought you teabaggers enjoyed the truth – but when Cameron, as he does here, tells the truth you can’t handle it.

    Bill, what does sexual orientation have to do with anything on this thread?

    @Stephen
    That was basically my point. I was not suggesting they were alike in content but in extremes. However Maher does not receive a fraction of Beck’s criticism while being much more incidiary in his speech.
