Letters Sent To NYC Mayor Bloomberg Test Positive For Ricin

Two letters sent to the residence and political organization of New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg have reportedly tested positive for ricin. One of the letters was addressed directly to Bloomberg, the other was sent to a building with an office belonging to Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and an NYPD spokesman tells The New York Times that the writer of both letters threatened Bloomberg “with references to the debate on gun laws.”

The first letter was opened at the mail facility for city government and did not reach Bloomberg, but according to CNN, the one addressed to Mayors Against Illegal Guns was opened by the group’s director, Mark Glaze. The New York deputy police commissioner said in a statement that Glaze showed no symptoms.

Ricin-laced letters were sent to President Obama and Mississippi senator Roger Wicker earlier this year, and after the initial suspect was released, another man was taken into federal custody.
