Lindsey Graham Wants Congressional Investigation Into Potential Russian Hacking
Senator Lindsey Graham said yesterday that Congress needs to conduct a serious investigation into potential Russian hacking.
Over the course of the election, a lot of people raised serious concerns that Russia was involved in the hacking of Democratic party files and phone records, as well as the John Podesta emails posted by WikiLeaks. Julian Assange pushed back against this in a recent statement, while the head of the NSA said just yesterday that there was most certainly a nation-state that engaged in hacking to achieve a specific outcome.
According to CNN, Graham told reporters yesterday that there should be a serious Congressional investigation into that:
“Assuming for a moment that we do believe that the Russian government was controlling outside organizations that hacked into our election, they should be punished,” Graham told reporters Tuesday. Referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Graham added that, “Putin should be punished.”
Graham also made it clear that just because Democrats were targeted doesn’t mean this should be a partisan issue:
“Here’s what I would tell Republicans: We cannot sit on the sidelines as a party and let allegations against a foreign government interfering in our election process go unanswered because it may have been beneficial to our cause.”
